Privacy, in plain language.

What we collect

Newsletter email. If you sign up for the newsletter, we collect the email address you enter so we can send you new concepts. That is the only thing the form asks for — no name, no payment details, no account. Signups are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile (a privacy-preserving bot check) and rate-limited by IP address to stop spam; the emails themselves are stored and delivered by Kit, our email provider.

Comments. If you sign in with Google to join a discussion, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google, and we store them alongside the comments you write (in Supabase, our database provider). Comments are reviewed before they appear publicly, and you can delete your own comments at any time.

Basic server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider (Hostinger) and CDN (Cloudflare) automatically record standard technical data — such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request — to keep the site secure and fast. We don't use these logs to build a profile of you.

How we use it

Your newsletter email is used for one thing: sending you the Basecase newsletter — new concepts and the occasional site update. Your Google name and picture are shown next to the comments you post, and your comment history is used only to moderate the discussion. We don't use any of it for advertising, and we don't share it so others can advertise to you. Server logs are used only to operate, secure, and improve the site.

Cookies & tracking

Basecase does not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics trackers. We don't follow you around the web, and we don't sell behavioral data — because we don't collect it in the first place. If you sign in to comment, your browser keeps a sign-in session so you stay logged in — that's functional, not tracking.

Who we share it with

We never sell or rent your information. We share it only with the service providers that make the site work: Hostinger (hosting), Cloudflare (CDN, security, and the Turnstile bot check), Kit (newsletter delivery), Supabase (sign-in and comment storage), Google (sign-in, if you use it), and Upstash (short-lived spam-prevention counters during newsletter signup). Each of them may only process your data to provide that service.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or where it's needed to protect the safety and integrity of the site.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any email we send, and you can delete any comment you've written with its delete button. You can also ask us to show you everything we hold about you, or erase it entirely — just email us and we'll take care of it.

Children's privacy

Basecase is meant for a general audience and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us their email, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we'll update this page and the “last updated” date above. Significant changes will be called out here.
